P20 Enters 2020 With New Chairman, New Venue For Next Global Payments Conference

Following the tremendous success of the 2019 P20 Global Payments Conference in London, the world’s leaders in payments and financial technology entered 2020 focused on enhancing P20’s unique industry relationships and worldwide goals.
The on-going collaboration, and the P20 working groups which enable that progress, are positioned to build momentum in advance of the next Global Payments Conference. The event is set to take place in New York City, in September.
“P20 is at the cutting edge of the payments industry,” said CEO Duncan Sandys. “It (the payments industry) is fast-changing, as we saw in 2019, and we have issues that we are collaborating on, to bring solutions that effect everybody, every day, in their lives.”
Following the inaugural P20 Global Payments Conference in London, Atlanta hosted it in 2018, before returning to London last October at Church House, one of central London’s iconic meeting venues.
The warm, inviting, yet stimulating venue fueled participation and collaboration, providing a natural springboard into 2020. Sandys says the momentum has grown since that impactful October gathering.
“One of the goals for P20 in 2020 is to grow our global footprint,” said Sandys. He added that talks are on-going with governments and regulators, to join the P20 in its mission to make payments accessible, affordable, and secure for all.
Said Sandys, “we are collaborating closely with governments in protecting the payments systems from cyber attacks and working hand-in-hand with industry leaders to ensure that, as we move to a more digital world, no-one is left behind.”
As P20 continues to be a leader in payments in this new decade, John Hutton has been appointed as P20’s second Chairman.
“We’re seeing real progress here,” said Hutton. “It’s about making sure that we (as in industry) work together, we collaborate on agreed outcomes. We have to remain focused on the pillars we’ve already established.”
Those pillars — regulation, cyber security, financial inclusion, and education — touch varying parts of the payments industry, ultimately impacting the lives of people every day.
“We’re working really hard on those pillars,” said Hutton. “This is about delivery, this is about making sure that we do what we say we’re going to do.”
Also at the heart of P20 is Peter Radcliffe, P20’s President and a longtime leader in payments.
"From its strong foundation built over the past three years, P20 is now ready to move to the next level. The major issues being tackled have brought together business leaders, regulators and government in a new way. Identifying criminal transactions and fraud is not competitive, but vital to building a better society.
“Ensuring that a country's payment infrastructure is never brought down, providing all our citizens with access to digital payments, is essential. The collaboration of stakeholders and use of the latest technology will deliver payments that are accessible, affordable and secure for all."
