Key Milestones

 

2016

Leaders of the Atlanta-based American Transaction Processors Coalition (ATPC) conceive the idea of P20. A meeting is organized in London with representatives of the UK payments industry, government and regulators. P20 is born.

 

2017

The P20 Board agrees to focus their efforts in 2017/18 on three pillars that are critical to the global payments industry:

  • Combating Fraud & Criminal Transactions

  • Cybersecurity

  • Financial Inclusion

In October 2017, the inaugural P20 conference is held at Lancaster House in London and is attended by over 150 senior payment executives, legislators, regulators and academia.

 

2018

P20 hosts a cyber attack simulation at IBM’s laboratories beginning the process of creating industry-wide protocols.

P20 hosts its second global conference in Atlanta attracting over 200 participants. Progress is reported on each of the three pillars.

 

2019

P20 Board agrees a work program for each pillar for 2019.

P20 hosts second cyber attack simulation to test industry response protocols.

Third P20 Global Payments Conference held in London and attended by leading politicians, industry leaders, regulators and government officials.

 

2020

P20’s Fraud & Criminal Transactions Working Group launches interim report entitled Payee Verification: Overview of Approaches used by Credit-Push Payment Systems, analyzing global approaches.

P20 releases signature report, Payments in a Post-COVID-19 World, to industry acclaim.

Fourth P20 Global Payments Conference held virtually on September 29 & 30.

 

2021

McKinsey & Company joins P20 as the first Global Knowledge Partner focusing on measures to combat fraud and criminal transactions.

P20’s Fraud & Criminal Transactions Working Group releases Best Practice Report on Payee Scam.
